On February 27, 2023, Fort Qu’Appelle Conservation Officers received a Turn in Poachers call regarding three people on snowmobiles chasing coyotes southwest of Francis at 5:20pm. The caller reported seeing one adult and two youth participating. The adult was observed chasing and running over a coyote with their snowmobile, then looping back to the injured animal and shooting it multiple times with a small caliber firearm. The caller was able to take a video of this occurrence.
Conservation officers responded to the area and determined that the chase began 2 miles southeast of Sedley at SE 3-14-15 W2 and ended 4 miles south and 1 mile east towards Francis at NW 13-13-15 W2, where the coyote was killed.
