On January 23, 2019 Prince Albert Conservation Officers received information through the Turn In Poachers Line regarding night hunting activity witnessed just South of the Highway #2 and 264 Waskesiu Lake Junction. The caller observed a cow and calf elk crossing Highway #2 and pulled in behind a black Ford crew-cab truck which was also parked along the highway, in the Northbound lane. A person was observed walking to the back of the truck and several gun shots were heard. The truck then left the area. While the shooter, dressed in a black jacket, ski pants, and a lumberjack-style toque, remained at the scene. Conservation Officers investigated the scene and located evidence on the highway and near the elk gut piles.
