On August 15, 2025, North Battleford Conservation Officers received a call reporting that an animal had been unlawfully harvested on private farm land along the Baljennie grid, south of Battleford, SK. Officers determined that a vehicle had pulled onto a field approach, shot an animal, and then drove into the standing canola crop to retrieve it. The vehicle then drove approximately two kilometers south to a more secluded location where the subjects field dressed the animal. No evidence of species was left behind. Officers determined that the animal was shot within 500m of an occupied dwelling, and that 3 rifle shots were heard in that area at approximately 8pm on August 14.
