On September 16, 2025, Conservation Officers received a Turn in Poachers call regarding a bull elk that had been shot and left to waste approximately 10 miles south of Wynyard, SK. The elk was found on Ducks Unlimited lands, but it is believed that it was shot elsewhere and died at this location. The investigation also revealed that two shots were taken at the elk the previous evening around 8:30pm, which is after the legal hunting hours. There was no open season for elk in this area at this time.
