On November 3, 2025, Spiritwood Conservation Officers received a report of an elk that was shot and left to waste just south of Fairholme, about 200m off of the roadway. Evidence indicates that the subject drove up to the elk and deliberately left the animal. While at the scene, officers were able to collect some evidence and believe that the elk was shot earlier in the day. There was no active cow elk season at the time.
